Three studies of women's heads may date from after the marriage of Beatrice Whistler (1857-1896) and Whistler in August 1888.
The size and make of the copper plate (which is the same as A French Street [405], Beatrice Whistler painting from a window, Bourges [399], Bird Shop - Seven Dials [384], Baby Pettigrew [374], The Fan [375], Château de Bridoré [409] and Café Luxembourg [436]), as well as the technique, and the form of the butterfly signature, suggest this date.
