It was recorded not entirely legibly as 'Scales / 7 x 5', during stocktaking in Whistler's studio. 5 This would be a copper plate of 178 x 127 mm. Since Whistler often gave width before height this could also mean it was a horizontal plate of 127 x 178mm. This is similar in size to several related subjects showing shops, including Exeter Street [274],
Nut Shop, St James's Place, Houndsditch [356], Melon Shop, Houndsditch [355] and Shaving and Shampooing [442].
5: J. Whistler, list, [August 1887/1888], GUW #13233.
The copper plate has not been located.
