Clothes-Exchange, Houndsditch, No. 2 probably   dates from 1887. The butterfly signature is consistent with this date. It is closely related to Clothes-Exchange, Houndsditch. No. 1 [358].
The Newcastle Leader reported on 17 August 1887 'Mr Whistler  ... was seen the other morning in the Minories sketching the picturesque corners of "Cloth Fair".' 1
