Nut Shop, St James’s Place, Houndsditch probably dates from the nut season - the autumn or winter of 1887. The butterfly signature is consistent with this date. The copper plate is similar in size to several 1887 etchings (i.e.Troopships 307 and The Barrow - Quartier des Marolles, Brussels 346).
However, it could date from early 1888, and was first recorded as sold in June 1888.
