TECHNIQUE
Lightly etched impressions of figures on a nearly empty beach, drawn with a minimum of outline and almost no shading, with minimal drypoint additions in the second state.
PRINTING
Impressions of this rare etching were printed in black ink on ivory () or off-white () laid paper with even, light tone. They were trimmed to the platemark and signed with a butterfly and 'imp' to show that Whistler had printed them.
