TECHNIQUE
The composition was drawn with confident sweeping lines, deeply etched, with fine drypoint shading added along the sails to soften the lines in the second state.
PRINTING
The single recorded impression of the first state () has not been located. Several impressions of the second state are in dark brown ink on laid paper, one with a partial Strasbourg Lily watermark () and two with unclear water- or countermarks ('X', ; 'HIC', ).
