The Desk dates from between 1874 and 1876. It is dated on the basis of the technique and costume. Furthermore, the copper plate is similar in size to several other plates by the same maker, Hughes & Kimber (Florence Leyland 136,
Nude Reclining 126,
Wych Street, London 176), and another unstamped plate (Under Old Battersea Bridge 168), dating from between 1874 and 1878.
