Nude posing probably dates from 1874 or 1875.
It is dated stylistically (see Portrait sketches including F.R. Leyland and Whistler 122, Nude Reclining 126, Nude Girl with Arms Raised 115) and from the copper plate, which bears a maker's stamp used from 1874 onwards ('HUGHES & KIMBER (LIMITED) / MANUFACTURERS / LONDON E.C.')
