Battersea Dawn (Cadogan Pier) dates from between 1861 and 1871, and most likely from 1863. It is most closely related in subject and technique to Battersea Reach 096 and Chelsea Wharf 097, which date from 1863. It is not dated on the copper plate.
It is difficult to date, having stylistic elements in common with other etchings over a decade, including The Little Pool 083 (which is dated '1861' on the plate), Old Hungerford Bridge 081 (which is not dated at all), and Chelsea Bridge and Church 102 (which is said to date from 1871), all of which were published with Battersea Dawn (Cadogan Pier) in A Series of Sixteen Etchings of Scenes on the Thames (the 'Thames Set') in 1871.
