STATE

One state is known before cancellation, which occurred in two stages.

State 1

Etching: K0480101
There is no signature or inscription.
In addition to fine drypoint lines on the sky, indicating clouds, there are faint outlines of three boats between the barge with the oarsman, at left, and the Stevens' boatyard.

State 1 (cancelled a)

Etching: K0480201
The faintly delineated boats between the barge with the oarsman, at left, and the Stevens' boatyard are less distict. The plate is lightly cancelled with three right to left diagonals (///), extending from the rightmost gabled boatyard building to the lower centre of the image.

State 1 (cancelled b)

Etching: K0480202
Cancelled more distinctly with irregular curved and diagonal drypoint lines like a flying jellyfish.
Published in a set of Cancelled Plates, by The Fine Art Society, London, 1879, with this style of cancellation.
