In the only other impression known, in addition to the one illustrated here, many of the etched lines denoting the face and shoulder of the man at right have been scraped from the paper (). Whistler then drew along the outlines of the woman's facial features, kerchief, jacket and skirt, and reinforced the shading of the arch at upper right and sides of her torso, in pen and ink. These alterations were not carried out on the copper plate.
