An impression was lent by Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) to the exhibition organised by the Caxton Club in Chicago in 1900 ( ). 7

After Whistler's death impressions were lent to the Grolier Club in New York in 1904 and the Whistler Memorial Exhibition in London in 1905. 8

SALES & COLLECTORS
 On 25 January 1889 the London art dealer Walter Dowdeswell (1858-1929) told Whistler that an impression of  'Chateau d'Amboise' submitted for approval to 'my client in the country' had been returned. 9  However, Whistler	sold a 'first state'	- probably  -   on 27 March 1889			to the Fine Art Society	for £6.6.0 and possibly another on 21 May 1889				 at the same price. 10  The first of these was later owned by Howard Mansfield (1849-1938).
