SALES & COLLECTORS
Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) may have inherited all five impressions from Whistler: she kept the first and fifth impressions, which were bequeathed by her to the University of Glasgow, 1958 (
,
). Harold Wright (1885-1961) of Colnaghi's in London listed and annotated items from the Whistler estate for Miss Philip, and took some 'duplicates' for sale. This may be where Margaret Selkirk Watson Parker (1867-1936) bought an impression, which is annotated by Wright (
). Two other collectors acquired impressions of this rare drypoint, Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) (
) and Harris G. Whittemore (d. ca 1937) (
). These three American collectors acquired the second, third and fourth impressions respectively.
