TECHNIQUE
This is pure etching.
PRINTING
Marchand de Meubles, Rue du Four is a very rare etching. Two impressions stayed in Whistler's possession; one is an impression in dark brown ink on buff laid paper, clearly a working proof, and is now sadly battered, torn and abraded (
). The other is a very interesting impression, also in dark brown ink, printed on light-weight ivory Japanese paper, and extensively worked over in pen and dark brown ink by Whistler, reproduced below ().

Figures were added, in ink, in the central doorway, and some of the miscellaneous goods piled all round the doorway were clarified. These alterations were not made on the plate.
