TECHNIQUE
It is mainly etching, with a little drypoint shading on the urns at the top of the gate-pillars.
PRINTING
Only two impressions have been located, one inscribed 1st proof' and printed in black ink (
) and the next, inscribed '1st. State -' and printed in dark brown (
), both on ivory wove paper. Judging by the etched butterfly signature, reproduced below, the etching was signed and printed in the 1890s, some years after the Whistler's honeymoon.
