Impressions taken from this plate (1) |
The copper plate has no maker's mark. It was close in size to several other plates used on this trip, including Booth, Market Place, Loches
[425],
Doorway, Stables - Loches
[416],
Rue des Bons Enfants, Tours
[392],
Market Women, Loches
[423],
Windows, Bourges
[398] and
Tour Saint Antoine, Loches
[414]. None have the maker's mark: they may have been obtained in France.
The plate was in Whistler's studio at his death and was bequeathed to Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958), who gave it to the University of Glasgow in 1935. It was cancelled posthumously with a diagonal line across the upper right corner.
