TECHNIQUE
Resting by the Stove is mostly etched, with minor drypoint shading added in the second state.
PRINTING
Resting by the Stove is very rare; only two impressions have been located. The sole impression of the first state was printed in black ink on ivory Japan paper (
), and the second in dark brown on cream laid paper (
), both with a very light surface tone, slightly darker at the bottom of the image. Both were trimmed to the platemark and signed on the tab with a butterfly and 'imp.' to show that Whistler had printed them.
