TECHNIQUE
This was drawn entirely in drypoint. One impression of the first state (reproduced below) is worked over extensively in wash, presumably to indicate possible additions to the copper plate (

PRINTING
It is rare: only four impressions have been located. One of the first proofs, mentioned above, was printed in black ink and worked on with wash, and is on a strong, fibrous, vellum-like wove paper (). Another early impression, printed in dark brown ink with heavy ink tone, is on cream 'modern' (post-1800) laid paper watermarked 'CHALLET' (). An impression of the last state, printed much more lightly, but still with tone on the water, is on ivory laid paper ().
