SALES & COLLECTORS
H. Wunderlich & Co. of New York bought one marked 'Chosen Proof' on 16 April 1889 for £10.10.10 (less 20 percent discount). 12 It was probably sold immediately on 27 May 1889 to Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) (
). The firm also reported one sold years later at a price of £12.12.0. 13 This may have been the impression owned at some time by Henry Harper Benedict (1844-1935), which bears Wunderlich's stock number a 39030 (
) or by Bryan Lathrop (1844-1916) who owned one by 1900 (
).On 18 July 1889 Whistler recorded that he had only one impression in stock, and he sold this, his last impression, to Roland F. Knoedler (1856-1932) two days later. 15
